“Gil has earned the support of local education officials, Congressional leaders, and national organizations like Giffords, because they know Gil is an independent leader, not a career politician,” said campaign spokesman Orrin Evans.  “The overwhelming support Gil is receiving on the ground, has allowed us the ability to tell Gil’s story of service to a larger audience. We are excited about this next stage of the campaign, and to be communicating Gil’s record of service and plan to lower health care costs, and protect school funding, to voters across Orange, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino counties.”

“Leaders must lead with their actions as well their words,” the ad begins with Gil reflecting on the lesson he learned while serving in the United States Navy. Throughout the ad, headlines from news outlets highlight Gil’s philanthropic giving and advocacy on behalf of students and veterans.

The Text And Script Of The Ad Reads As Follows:

Cisneros:

“Leaders must lead with their actions as well as their words. It’s a lesson I learned during my years of service in the Navy.

So when fortune struck, I knew it was my duty to do what was right… To help those who needed it most.

I launched a foundation that is helping kids across the country go to college.

Like me…many are the first in their family to earn a college degree.

But as we work to open new doors for them…

Washington is shutting them out.

Shutting our community out.  Working only for the wealthy.

I’m tired of politicians who’ve sold out to the special interests.

This is our government, and it needs to work for us.

That’s why I’m running for Congress and why I won’t take corporate PAC money.

I’ll stand up to insurance companies to lower healthcare costs.

I’ll create good-paying local jobs. And protect school funding.

I’m Gil Cisneros, and I approve this message because leading by example is how we fix Washington.”

California’s 39th Congressional District, split between Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties, will be one of the most competitive districts in California. Hillary Clinton won the district by a whopping nine points, the DCCC labeled it a first-round target on its battlefield map and recently, the Cook Political Report changed the district’s status from Lean R to Lean D.
