Fullerton, Calif. – Today, Gil Cisneros, Fmr. Lieutenant Commander who is running for Congress in California’s 39th Congressional District, was endorsed by the Sierra Club, the nation’s largest grassroots environmental organization with over three million members and supporters and 64 local chapters nationwide.
“The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Gil Cisneros for Representative in the 39th Congressional District,” said Mike Bressler, the Sierra Club Orange County Political Committee Chair. “He has taken strong and clear stands to protect the nation and planet we pass on to future generations. We recognize that by supporting action on climate change, and opposing Trump administration efforts to expand offshore oil drilling and demolish air and water quality regulations that protect our health and our country’s well-being, Gil is taking stands that will benefit both the real interests of people in District 39, and the entire country. We hope that all those who care about our nation’s environment will help in this important campaign to elect a U.S. Representative in District 39 who recognizes the importance of, and will play a role in protecting our environment.”
“I’m proud to have the Sierra Club with me as we work to protect our climate for future generations,” said Cisneros. “The Trump administration is waging an unprecedented attack on our environment. By undermining environmental laws, including California’s clean car regulations, the President is accelerating the effects of climate change and putting the well-being of our communities at risk. While the President and my opponent side with big oil companies that harm our air, water, and coastlines, I pledge to combat climate change and push for investments in a green economy so we can create a clean planet for our children and grandchildren.”
The Sierra Club’s endorsement adds to the growing list of elected officials and organizations who support Cisneros’s campaign, including the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association, Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice America, California Treasurer John Chiang, Congressman Ted Lieu and eighteen other Democratic members of Congress, SEIU California, the Giffords Campaign to End Gun Violence, The Brady Campaign, California School Employees Association (CSEA), the California Democratic Party, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), UniteHere! Local 11, Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, United Steel Workers, the Orange County Labor Fed, the LA County Labor Fed, the California Labor Fed, IBEW Local 11, LiUNA Local 562, women’s rights champion Dolores Huerta, BOLD PAC, End Citizens United, the national Veterans advocacy organization VoteVets, and numerous local officials.
