Fullerton, Calif. – Today, Gil Cisneros, Fmr. Lieutenant Commander who is running for Congress in California’s 39th Congressional District, released an internal polling memo which showed him leading over Republican opponent Young Kim. The internal poll, conducted in October by Tulchin Research, shows Cisneros ahead of Young Kim, including among voters most enthusiastic about voting in November. Cisneros’s lead is especially notable as Paul Ryan’s Super PAC, the Congressional Leadership Fund, spent more than $2 million in false and misleading attack ads against him.
The poll shows Cisneros leading over Young Kim by 1 point, 48% to 47%, with Cisneros holding a net positive rating of +8%. President Trump remains underwater in the district, with 53% of voters having an unfavorable opinion of him.
“Young Kim still refuses to even comment on the false attacks by Paul Ryan’s Super PAC, but maybe now she’ll speak out since she remains behind and there’s nothing at stake for her,” said Nic Jordan, Campaign Manager for the Cisneros campaign. “Voters aren’t fooled by Super PAC lies, and they believe in Gil’s integrity, record of military service to our country, and philanthropy towards his community. The people of the 39th are ready to reject dark money ally and Trump surrogate Young Kim and elect Gil Cisneros, the person they trust to have the political courage to stand up for their values and hold the President accountable.”
The Tulchin Research poll was conducted during an extensive run of false advertising attacks against Cisneros from Paul Ryan’s Super PAC and before the Super PAC was forced to pull these false ads off the air. The poll was conducted from September 28th to October 2nd, 2018, among 400 likely November 2018 voters in both English and Spanish. The margin of error is +/- 4.9%.
