Fullerton, Calif. – Today, Gil Cisneros’s campaign released another ad for the general election – called “Myka’s Story” – where Angela, a mom from the 39th district, tells the story of her daughter, Myka, who struggles with a pre-existing condition. Republicans in Congress are fighting to make it harder for Myka and millions of other children with pre-existing conditions to find access to affordable healthcare. Young Kim supports this agenda while Gil Cisneros promises to stand up for families and ensure children can get the affordable treatment they need.
“This is my daughter Myka ice skating when she was 8,” says Angela in the ad. “She’s a normal child in almost every way. Except Myka has a congenital heart defect, a pre-existing condition. She’s had 2 open heart surgeries and will need another. This is a photo of politicians celebrating after they took away protections for kids like Myka. And this is Young Kim, a candidate who supports their agenda, an agenda that’s cruel and prioritizes profits for insurance companies over Myka’s care. I’m supporting Gil Cisneros because he believes no child should be denied the health care they need.”
“Myka is an eight-year-old kid who loves to skate and play, but she’s had two open heart surgeries in her short life. It’s critical that the millions of kids who, like Myka, have a pre-existing condition are covered,” Gil Cisneros said. “Republicans in Washington want to make it harder to access affordable healthcare and Young Kim will support their efforts to gut policies that ensures all children have healthcare. I can’t bear to hear one more story like Myka’s and will fight hard in Washington so kids can get the care they need to live long, happy and healthy lives.”
“Myka’s Story” highlights the story of Myka who would be negatively impacted by Republicans’ efforts to repeal the ACA and undo protections for those with pre-existing conditions. In a Chamber of Commerce forum earlier this year, Young Kim stated her opposition to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), calling it, “a broken promise,” and supported repealing it. Kim has refused to a call out the Trump administration for its lawsuit to suspend the ACA and undo protections for those with pre-existing conditions, which could put healthcare at risk for 320,700 residents in the 39th District.
“Myka’s Story” will air in the 39th Congressional District. The ad can be seen here.
